... a possible itinerary ...

Day 1:

  • Stout Grove… just a 3 minute drive to the turn off (South Fork Road) for the Stout Grove… a picturesque drive beyond description to the Stout Grove where you will find majestic Redwoods on a beautiful walk through pre-historic groves of ferns & Redwoods.
  • Grove of the Titans… not discovered until 1998... Largest coastal redwoods ever discovered.
  • Crescent Beach overlook… located in the California State Park off the 101 South of Crescent City… turn onto Crescent Beach Drive, proceed 1.5 miles, where you will be mesmerized by the scenic beauty of the South Beach that rivals any beach on the West Coast. A coastal trail leads you to a beautiful, drift wood laden, sandy beach where you can relax and enjoy the scenery, or explore the tidal pools.

Day 2:

  • Exit Redwood Meadows RV Resort, turn right… proceed past the Redwood National Park information center about 2 miles and turn right on Hwy 197. At the junction of Hwy 197 and Hwy 101, turn right and proceed through the hamlet of Smith River to Brookings, Oregon (about 20 minutes).
  • Explore the shopping of Brookings, Harris Beach, and be sure to drive a few minutes north and cross the tallest bridge in Oregon.After, crossing the tallest bridge in Oregon, drive a few more minutes to the Natural Bridge, where you will be astounded by the view of the Ocean coming in through the Natural Arches. Don’t forget your camera. Restaurants to explore in the area:
    • Super Fly (martini bar, with homemade vodka)
    • Oxenfre (steaks, burgers, pasta… just good food)
    • Pacific Sushi & Grill for the best sushi in Oregon (just ask Patti)
    • Fat Irish… Pub/Micro Brew … you have to see it to believe it… mugs filling with beer from the bottom…
    • Zola’s Pizzeria… brick oven pizza (everyone here agrees, “it is the best!”)
    • Wild Rivers Pizza… famous for their Pub Fries.
    • O’Halleran’s Bistro … great Californian-bistro food…

Day 3:

Day 4:

  • Kayak, canoe, float, fish the Smith River (one of the most picturesque & pristine rivers in all of America).

Day 5:

  • Last Chance Trail… hiking or biking on the old California Coastal Trail (1930’s 101)… scenic beauty beyond description.
  • Enderts Beach and lookout … one of the longest continuous beaches in the West… whale watching and great for beach combing… wonderful tidal pools to explore.
  • Battery Point Lighthouse… 1856 … one of the first lighthouses funded by the United States government… only available during low tide.
  • Point St. George Lighthouse… 1865, built in 1866, after the sinking of the Brother Jonathan where over 200 lives were lost… Millions of dollars worth of gold still sits on the Ocean floor…

Day 6:

  • Newton P. Drury Parkway… see the world’s largest elk… visit Patrick’s Point and watch for whales. Be sure to pack a lunch. Ask our Resort Hosts for great places to pick-up sandwiches and supplies.

Day 7:

  • Fishing… charter boat out of Crescent City… Fly or bait casting on the Smith River.
